Campus news at HSE University

On October 5^th, high level HSE management and leading faculty members had a meeting with Panos Pardalos, Distinguished Professor of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Florida, USA, to discuss plans and future opportunities for a new Laboratory at the HSE branch in Nizhny Novgorod. The Laboratory of Algorithms and Technologies of Network Structures will be established through a grant from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. On October 3rd Jacques-Francois Thisse, Professor of Economics and Regional Science at the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium) gave a press conference at the Higher School of Economics.

On September 28^th 2011, Daniel Leigh and John Bluedorn, economists from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), presented the latest issue of the World Economic Outlook (forecasts and analysis) ‘Slowing growth, rising risks’ at the Higher School of Economics.

On the September 19th Eric Maskin, Nobel laureate in economics, Professor at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton University (USA), Chief Research Fellow at the HSE International Laboratory of Decision Choice and Analysis, arrived in Moscow again. On September 27^th the 11^th graduation ceremony of the HSE International College of Economics and Finance undergraduate and master’s programmes took place at the British Embassy in Moscow.

On September 26^th a meeting between the administration of the Higher School of Economics and international lecturers and researchers took place at the HSE. The aim of the event was to discuss various organizational, legal and academic aspects of their work at the HSE.

On September 21^st the Russian Government Grant Council announced the names of the winners of the second open competition for Russian Government grants for state support of scientific research conducted under the supervision of leading scientists in Russian universities. Among the 39 winners were two applications from the Higher School of Economics.

From September 15th-17th an international workshop on ‘National Business Cycles in the Global World’ will take place at the HSE. The event has been organized by the HSE together with the Centre for International Research on Economic Tendency Surveys (CIRET) and the Swiss Economic Institute (KOF). Jan-Egbert Sturm, President of CIRET and Director of KOF, told us about the forthcoming workshop and the importance of business cycle studies.
